What Photography Means To Me.

What Photography Means To Me - By Michael Priest.

Merriam Websters defines Photography As - the Art, Process or Job of taking Pictures with a Camera. In that definition Photography is and foremost an Art, so if we look up the definition of Art in Merriam Webster we get this Art is something created with ones Imagination and or Skill that is beautiful or expresses important ideas and or feelings. I think that Merriam Webster has hit the definition right on the head. Photography in its basic sense to me other than leaning how your camera works as so forth is this use your Imagination, think of what you want to capture, or what you feel is beautiful in your eyes, do not worry about what others are going to say about your photos if you love them that is really all that matters, and if your goal is to express emotions and cause the viewer to feel emotion then you need to develop the skill of looking for things that stir up emotions in you and try to capture that in your photo. The Camera is a tool to do these things, with different cameras out all the time it is impossible to to keep up with the Jones's to have the best Camera money can buy and it is not that big of a deal the best Camera is the one you have, learn to use it to the best of your ability. Today there are a number of DSLR Cameras that are very inexpensive to get into and I am only suggesting that you get one for reasons of helping you to imagine an image and getting out to capture what you want, there are so many lenses for different things and it is great to have them as part of your tool box of tricks to use but don't let that stop you from shooting with whatever camera you have.
